In my brief exposure to the nuts and bolts of this business, it's now evident that 'state specific' instruction is critical for a fast, profitable launch in this industry. As is usual with national training programs ( weather they are real estate, internet marketing...) the local market/government had enough distinctives to render the 'generic' solutions incomplete. This is what our company seek to rectify. While doing the aquisition ourselves, we are offering local franchises for people-with local proceedures included in the package.

I also am familiar with Sierra Judgement Recovery, and plan to take this on one day when I have the money and time. I think this would go great with my law enforcement training.

I too am looking very closely at the Sierra Judgment Recovery Training Program. I'm currently reading over in detail, the free Judgment Recovery Start-Up Guide. I have found nothing that alarms me that this is a possible scam. What I believe it is however; is hard work. I am ready to put in the hours for myself and control my own future.

I looked into the program. the problem is people who owe these judgement go to great lenghts to hide any assets they have so you can spend a lot to try and locate them and not find enough to satisfy the judgement. If you work older judgments where the person who owes thinks no one is looking to collect you may be able to find them and their assets.

My experience with the co. is limited.I purchased the course and am a member with access to their archives and (HELP)forum but did not . I studied but did not follow through. I absolutely do not believe they are a scam of any nature. However, and let me preface this with the fact that I have been successfully self-employed in another industry for 25 yrs.Entirely unrelated but understand what kind of constant dedication is required of any self endeavor.Never the less, the learning process requires more legalize than I like. The course is not REALLY all inclusive in the sense that there is alot of further study in the "legal field of sorts"that you simply have to educate yourself on.Again, not impossible. As Christine states openly, you have to love research. You have to be well versed in your state codes, ethics, civil statutes and do your own law research on contracts and alot of other legally proper verbage or you could be sued by an attorney for not following protocol or practing without a license. It's said that some do not appreciate one in a "new industry"going after money or assets they may feel 'intitled to"Some have been financially devastated from this.Again, you REALLY have to self learn the ropes so to speak but the information IS in their archives. Not always as cognitive as I would have liked. Then there is the most (important?)aspect, of learning the skiptracing field.I would recommend to any one to google skiptracing and check out that info. Then there are start up fees of all sorts as there would be in any business and ongoing fees to access the needed info.to locate debtor and assets.I read one mans "modest "start up business plan and he was looking at APROX.$50.000 . WOW!I never intended this to sound like a neg. review. This was just my experience and perception.Maybe I was naive. My daughter and friend are court reporters and know their way around a court house and attorneys and they looked into it some and were correct in telling me you have to learn P.I.skills and maybe (according to your state requirements get a debt collectors license.Scam? No.there are people succeding in the industry.Hope this was of benefit to someone.

Well I feel they stole my money, like a few places said they do not tell you everything, you have to basically be a "Collection Agency" in most states cause they will not allow you to do anything and they told me in wisconsin collecting a debt it collecting a debt, any collection activity of any kind has to have a license and it costs alot of money a nd to be bonded and go by the rules..

I told them this and asked for a refund in the time I had alotted and they still never gave it back to me..

Sierra Judgment Recovery is a good company. The only thing they lack is a phone. I used them when I first started and was satisfied but the one and only thing that made me ask for a refund was the phone. I would call to ask a question and they would never answer. I spoke to a few other people in the business with them and they said the same thing. That is why I started Professional Judgment Recovery Course. The databases sometimes take a little time to gain access so I perform the work for them and show them how when they get the access.

The thing I've come across that you should be aware of before you go for it is that after you pay the fee for the information, you have more expenses. First of all, you have to send out letters to prospective clients, so there is printing and postage costs there. then there is the court fees to file various forms and things.

It is my understanding that, when this is done correctly, YOU become the judgement holder because your client actually signs the judgement over to you. Your contract with the judgement holder gives them a portion of the judgement you now own should you be successful in collecting on the judgement.

So, you aren't actually collecting a debt for another person, but rather, you are collecting a debt that you own. I believe that those people who were told that they must register as a debt collector either spoke to the wrong people about this in their states or they didn't explain the concept properly. I'm not an expert in this, but it seems only logical that a person would not have to register as a debt collector in order to collect a judgement that they hold against another person.

For example: You take John Smith to small claims court because John Smith owed you money. Once you are awarded a judgement against John Smith, you have the right to try and collect that judgement against him (without registering as a debt collector). Well, this process is the same in the case of judgement recovery - except the ORIGINAL person who takes John Smith to court is not you, it is Mary Doe. Once Mary Doe receives a court judgement, she signs the judgement over to you. Now you own the judgement. Mary Doe is not hiring you to collect the judgement because it is a judgement you now have against John Smith. So, it is as if you took John Smith to court and Mary Doe had nothing to do with it. You have another agreement with Mary Doe - should you be successful in ever collecting the judgement you now hold against John Smith (the judgement that USED to belong to Mary Smith, but she gave it to you), you agree to give Mary Doe a portion of that money.

That is my understanding of the process. I could be wrong about having to register as a debt collector, but it doesn't seem that it would come into play in the scenario unless your state has specific rules about collecting judgements. Otherwise, every person who holds a judgement against another person would have to register as a debt collector in order to collect on their judgement.
